A video shared on X allegedly shows several images of “extinct dragons of North America.”

Verdict: False

The images were made with the use of artificial intelligence (AI), their creator confirmed in an email to Check Your Fact.

Fact Check:

A woman recently discovered a large fossil of a mammoth while on a walk in a U.K. beach, according to Mirror. The tooth may belong to a steppe mammoth, one of the largest mammoth species, who roamed the earth around 1.8 million years ago, the outlet reported.

An X video appears to show a compilation of photographs showing men standing in front of massive skulls resembling dragons. The images are sepia-toned, giving the impression that they were taken long ago.

“Extinct Dragons of North America,” the post’s caption reads.

These are not legitimate images, however. The Instagram video contains a watermark for an account called The_AI_Experiment, which appears to have originally posted the video. The caption contains the hashtags “#ai” and “#midjourneyai.” Midjourney is a site that generates images using artificial intelligence. “Yes, these images were all created last year using MidJourney by myself, The AI Experiment,” The AI Experiment told Check Your Fact in an email. “Originally this video was posted to TikTok before the requirement to label such work as AI. You will now see that all content created for my TikTok page is labeled as AI Generated as I intend all my creations to be interpreted as entertainment.”
