FACT CHECK: Viral Image Claims To Show Rihanna Pregnant

An image shared on Facebook over 43,000 times allegedly shows singer Rihanna pregnant.

Verdict: False

The image has been altered to make it appear like Rihanna has a baby bump. She has not announced a pregnancy as of press time.

Fact Check:

Rihanna attended the Met Gala on Sept. 13, where she made headlines for her attire and arriving late, according to Insider. Since the gala, Facebook users have been sharing pictures of Rihanna in a black dress showing what appears to be a baby bump.

“Congratulations Rihanna,” reads the caption of one such Facebook post. The image’s caption was followed by a string of emojis that includes one of a baby.

However, Check Your Fact discovered through a reverse image search that the pictures showing the alleged baby bump have been circulating the internet since at least 2016. Nearly identical photos, showing Rihanna wearing the same black dress and carrying the same handbag, were also shared online in 2014. There is, however, no baby bump visible in the batch of photos from 2014, meaning the images being shared on Facebook currently, the same ones which first appeared in 2016, were altered to make it appear like the singer is expecting.

Check Your Fact found no credible news reports about Rihanna saying she is currently pregnant. She has not announced a pregnancy on her website or her verified social media accounts. (RELATED: Did Rapper XXXTentacion Tweet That He Faked His Death?)

Rihanna did say in a 2020 interview with British Vogue that she plans to have “3 or 4 kids.” The singer is rumored to be in a relationship with rapper A$AP Rocky, and the two appeared together at the Met Gala, according to Elle.
