A video shared on Facebook purports House Democrats purportedly removed Speaker and California Rep. Nancy Pelosi from office.

Verdict: False

The caption is inaccurate. The video is composed of two unrelated clips and neither mentions Pelosi being removed from office.

Fact Check:

Pelosi was reportedly booed by attendees at the Global Citizen Festival Saturday in New York City after making a surprise appearance, according to Fox News. The speaker commented on climate change and carbon pollution but kept remarks short after the negative reception from the crowd, the outlet reported.

The Facebook video, viewed 33,000 times, claims Pelosi was kicked out of office. “BREAKING! Whole Congress 𝗘𝗥𝗨𝗣𝗧𝗦 as House 𝗗𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗰𝗿𝗮𝘁𝘀 𝗞𝗜𝗖𝗞𝗦 𝗡𝗮𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗣𝗲𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗶 from Office,” the video’s caption reads.

The caption is inaccurate. There are no credible news reports to support the  claim. Likewise, neither Pelosi nor the House Democrats have mentioned the claim on their verified social media pages or respective websites.

The video is composed of two unrelated clips. In the first clip, Fox Business host Stuart Varney alleges Pelosi has “lost control” of the Democratic party during a 2019 segment on his show, “Varney & Co.” He cites an example where Democratic California Rep. Maxine Waters called former President Donald Trump “dangerous” at a public event.

In the second clip, political commentator Ben Shapiro discusses Pelosi’s announcement that Democrats would move forward with an impeachment inquiry against Trump in 2019 on “The Ben Shapiro Show.”  Neither clips discuss a recent removal of Pelosi or any other Democratic official from office. The U.S. House of Representatives can expel members for “disorderly behavior” with a two-thirds majority vote. Expulsion, which has been used only five times in U.S. history, is typically reserved for the “most reprehensible conduct or crimes.,” according to the House archives.

Check Your Fact has contacted spokespersons at Pelosi and House Democrats Chair Hakeem Jeffries’ offices for comment and will update this piece accordingly if one is received.
