A video shared on Facebook claims Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz purportedly unveiled a video showing Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and Hunter Biden’s alleged “illegal activities.”

Verdict: False

The caption is inaccurate. The video features two unrelated clips, neither of which repeats the purported claim.

Fact Check:

Cruz recently repaid himself $555,000 to cover old personal loans after he successfully challenged a law in the Supreme Court that prevented him from raising additional money following an election, according to Business Insider. Recently released video showed Pelosi saying she wanted to “punch” former President Donald Trump over the Jan. 6 Capitol Hill riots in 2021, The Washington Post reported.

The Facebook video, viewed 16,000 times, claims Cruz unveiled a video of Pelosi and Biden’s “illegal activities.” “𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐄𝐗𝐏𝐋𝐎𝐃𝐄𝐒 𝐀𝐬 Ted Cruz 𝐔𝐍𝐕𝐄𝐈𝐋𝐒 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐜𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 Video Of Pelosi And Hunter’s 𝐈𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐥 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬,” the video’s caption reads.

The caption is inaccurate. There are no credible news reports to support the claim. Likewise, the claim is not mentioned on Cruz, Pelosi, or the White House’s verified social media pages or their respective websites.

The over 15-minute video features two unrelated clips, neither of which repeats the purported claim.

In the first clip, Cruz calls out Democrats’ approach to criminal justice reform during a 2021 Senate Judiciary Committee hearing. Cruz alleges that Democrats have voted against key criminal justice reform bills as a result of partisan politics. Illinois Democratic Sen. Dick Durbin responds to Cruz’s comments after he finishes speaking.

In the second clip, Cruz discusses concerns around free speech in relation to The Journalism Competition and Preservation Act during a 2022 Senate Judiciary Committee hearing. (RELATED: Does This Video Show Ted Cruz Saying He Has Documents That Could Implicate Adam Schiff?)
