A post shared on Instagram claims billionaire philanthropist George Soros has been banned from Russia, Pakistan, Turkey, Hungary, Poland and the Philippines.

Verdict: False

There is no evidence for the claim. A Soros spokesperson told PolitiFact that Soros is not banned from the countries.

Fact Checker:

George Soros’ son has made over 14 visits on his behalf since President Joe Biden took office, according to New York Post. Alexander Soros’ social media accounts depict him meeting with several public figures such as former President Barack Obama, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, according to Fox News.

The Instagram photo appears to show a headshot of Soros with a devil emoji on his head and red hands pointing towards him in a circle.

“THIS ASSHOLE IS BANNED IN RUSSIA, PAKISTAN, TURKEY, HUNGARY, POLAND, PHILLIPINES,” the image’s text reads. “ASK YOURSELF WHY SIX MAJOR COUNTRIES HAVE BANNED THIS TRAITOR AND NOT THE USA WHERE HE CONTINUES TO FUND A COMMUNIST INSURRECTION.”

The claim is baseless, however. Although two branches of Soros’ charity network have been banned in Russia, according to Reuters, Check Your Fact found no credible news reports about Soros being banned from the aforementioned countries. (RELATED: Is Hungary Preparing To Prosecute George Soros?)

“George Soros has not received any official communications from any government that would limit his ability to travel as an American citizen to any of those countries,” a Soros spokesperson told PolitiFact.

This is not the first time Soros has been the target of misinformation on social media. Check Your Fact recently debunked a claim suggesting the philanthropic billionaire was about to be prosecuted by Hungarian authorities.
