FACT CHECK: Does This Video Show A Recent Arrest In Chicago?

Joseph Casieri | Fact Check Reporter

A video shared on social media purportedly shows an arrest that recently took place in Chicago.

 Verdict: False

The caption is inaccurate. The video was recorded in Missouri in 2022.

Fact Check:

20 people were shot in Chicago this weekend with one fatality, local station ABC 7 News reported. Hundreds of African American church members and pastors marched in Chicago on Saturday to protest the violence that had recently occurred in the city, Fox 32 reported.

The Twitter post purports a violent fight broke out in Chicago during an arrest. The video shows the arrest taking place in a parking lot.

“Policing Chicago in 2023,” the caption reads. “Potentially fatal attack, immediately followed by street ‘performance.'”

The caption is inaccurate. There is no credible news report that this incident took place recently or in the city of Chicago. The video appears to stem from a Reddit post that was shared in Nov. 2022. That post features a text overlay that reads, “Only in KANSAS CITY MISSOURI.”

Local Kansas City News outlet Fox 4 KC reported on the incident, stating the altercation took place in Kansas City’s Westport district after a Chiefs game. (RELATED: Does This Video Show A Road Out OF Bakhmut?)

This is not the first time a video has spread online with a false or misleading caption. Check Your Fact recently debunked a claim that video showed a violent protest in Kenya.
