FACT CHECK: Does Video Show A UFO In Chile?

A video shared on Twitter purportedly shows a UFO that appeared in a small Chilean town.

Verdict: False

The video is miscaptioned. It actually depicts an amusement park ride in Italy, not a UFO.

Fact Check:

Hundreds of people were stranded after attempting to cross into Peru from Chile, according to Fox News. The migrants, mostly Venezuelans, attempted to flee Chile due to harsher immigration policies and increasing xenophobia, The Guardian reported.

The Twitter video appears to show footage of a slow-moving saucer-like structure with lights on the bottom. The sound of people talking can be heard in the background.

“ufo appeared in a small town in chile,” the tweet reads. “Hundreds of people were present to witness.”

The video was miscaptioned, however. Check Your Fact was unable to verify the source of the video, but a Twitter user placed the video in Italy in 2015. It was recently posted to the subreddit r/UFOs where users in the comments identified it as an amusement park ride.

The object seen in the video greatly resembles the amusement park ride called Flying Island at Gardaland Park in Verona, Italy.

Check Your Fact reached out to Gardaland Park for comment and will update this piece accordingly if one is received.
