An image shared on Twitter claims to show the wife of the Governor of the Belgorod region fleeing.

Verdict: False

The image was first shared in February 2023. There is no evidence the woman in the picture is the governor’s wife.

Fact Check:

Russian fighters, aligned with Ukraine, have crossed the Russian-Ukrainian border and attacked border settlements in Russia’s Belgorod region several times in the past week, according to Meduza.

The Twitter image claims that the wife of Vyacheslav Gladkov, the regional governor, was spotted at an international airport. The tweet reads, “The wife of Belgorod Region Governor Gladkov was spotted at the international airport with belongings. We don’t leave ours.”

However, the image predates the Belgorod raids. Through a reverse image search, Check Your Fact found that the image was shared on the Russian Association of Tour Operators’ website in February 2023, three months before the raids. The airline was celebrating its six millionth passenger.

AZUR air escorted its six millionth passenger to Vnukovo,” reads the website page title. (RELATED: Did The Leaked Pentagon Documents Show Ukraine Suffered 71,000 Dead?)

There is also no evidence that the woman in the image is Marina Gladkova, the wife of the governor. While the woman highlighted in the Twitter post has blonde hair, the original image shows that her hair is shoulder-length. Gladkova keeps her hair short and was pictured May 21 with short hair, according to Lead Stories.

Lead Stories reported that Gladkov addressed “fake” claims about his wife being at the airport during the raids on his VKontakte account.
