FACT CHECK: Has An Infinity Symbol Been Added To The Pride Flag To Represent Autism?

A post shared on Twitter claims that the Progress Pride Flag has been updated to show a symbol representing autism.

Verdict: False

There is no evidence for this claim. The creator of the intersex-inclusive Progress Pride Flag created the image, but it does not officially represent the LGBTQ+ community.

Fact Check:

Starbucks was recently accused by a union of banning Pride-themed displays, according to Reuters. The coffee company has promised to set clearer guidelines for Pride decorations as over 60 of their stores strike, CNN reported.

A tweet claims the LGBTQ+ flag has been officially updated to include autism. The image shows the Progress Pride flag with an infinity symbol.

“The LGBTQI2S+ flag has been updated by the official flag creator for prides and LGBT orgs,” the tweet reads. “The new flag has now added AUTISM.”

Although the image does resemble the Autism Pride Flag, as outlined by Autistic Empire, there is no evidence the Progress Pride Flag has been officially updated to include the symbol shown in the Autism Pride Flag.

The image was originally posted by Valentino Vecchietti, creator of the intersex-inclusive Progress Pride Flag. The flag is not official, however. “I created this version of my flag simply as an offering for those who wish for it,” she said in a follow-up tweet. “Please remember that there is already an Autistic Pride flag which you can download on wikipaedia(sic): it has the rainbow infinity symbol on a yellow background.”
