A post shared on social media purports that actor and director Mel Gibson has requested protection from Hollywood elites after the release of the film Sound of Freedom.

Verdict: False

The claim is inaccurate. There is no evidence that this occurred.

Fact Check:

The independent film from Angel studios the Sound of Freedom is surpassing expectations at the box office, outperforming the Tom Cruise led Mission Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, Forbes reported. Gibson has been a supporter of the movie, causing social media users to look deeper in to his past claims of evil in Hollywood, according to Newsweek.

The Facebook post claims that Gibson stated that he is in danger after working on the new film Sound of Freedom. The post shares a myriad of clips of the actor speaking about corruption in Hollywood and human trafficking.

The caption reads, “7 MINUTES AGO_ Mel Gibson Cries For PROTECTION From Hollywood Elite After _Sound of Freedom_.”

The claim is inaccurate. There is no credible news report that suggests that this is accurate.  The clips have no relation to the claim made in the caption. Several of the clips predate the release of the film.

One clip from several years ago features Gibson discussing the research he had done for the film, “The Passion of the Christ.” Gibson says that in his extensive research for the film the actual events were far worse than what was portrayed on screen.

Another video is from an appearance on Late Night Show with Stephen Colbert that dates back to 2016, in which he discussed his work and confirmed that he was working on a sequel to the Passion of the Christ.

At no point in this video did any recent news surface of Gibson or a request for protection from Hollywood elites. (RELATED: Were There 110,000 Overdose Deaths In 2022?)

This is not the first time a misinformation has been shared online. Check Your Fact recently debunked a claim that a video showed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy dancing in a gold costume.
