Fact Check:

Department of Justice Attorney General Merrick Garland has appointed U.S. Attorney David Weiss to lead a special counsel in the probe of Hunter Biden, according to NBC News.

In a recent interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity, McCarthy mentioned that Biden denied that his son was accepting money from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). McCarthy stated that this was not true saying, “When President Biden was running for office, he told the American public that he never talked about business he said that his family never a dollar from China, which we now prove is not true.”

Biden also argued against the claim during the second presidential debate against then-President Donald Trump. “My son has not made money in terms of this thing about, what are you talking about, China,” the former vice president said at the debate.

McCarthy’s claim appears to be true. Hunter Biden admitted to receiving “hundreds of thousands of dollas from a Chinese Communist Party-backed company” during a court appearence, according to the New York Post.  The president’s son stated that he had made over $600,000 from a CCP-backed infrastructre investment company in 2017, Fox News reported.

Other news sources have reported on Hunter’s admissions to receiving payments from China, such as The Washington Post and USA Today. A former business associate of Hunter who aided in deals with China and Ukraine, Devon Archer, testified before the House Oversight Committee about the arraingments, according to ABC News.

Archer said in his testimony that Chinese investments were used in their business deals. When asked by an Oversight Committee member, “And this private-equity deal with Bohai was used — it was using some of Chinese investors’ money to source deals outside of China?” Archer answered, “That was the original intent, yes.”

Archer testified that Hunter Biden would put his father on speakerphone during business meetings. According to the transcription of the testimony, Archer did not give a definitive number on how many times this happened, but confirmed the calls and also stated he would “make it apparent” that he had talked to his father. (RELATED: Did RFK Jr. Meet With Then-President Trump To Lead A Vaccine Safety Commission?)
