A video shared on social media purportedly shows a news anchor covering the death of Hillary Clinton.

Verdict: False

The claim is inaccurate.

Fact Check:

Clinton received backlash for her recent comments about supporters of former President Donald Trump, suggesting they are “extremists,” Fox News reported. Many Republican lawmakers responded to this statement, including Florida Rep. Byron Donalds who stated it was “unhinged behavior.”

The Facebook post purports a news outlet reported on the death of Hillary Clinton. The post shows video of a TV news anchor introducing the topic of her death.

“We begin with the breaking news about Hillary Clinton’s death,” the anchor says.

The video then cuts to unrelated footage of Clinton. The text overlay reads, “That time they ‘accidentally’ reported that Hillary died.”

This claim is inaccurate. There is no credible news report that suggests Clinton is dead. The video is of a news report from WABC-TV News anchor Joe Torres reporting on an illness that Clinton contracted during her 2016 presidential campaign.

Torres does appear to say that ‘Hillary Clinton’s death.” However, the full video reveals that Torres misspoke when he corrects himself, saying Clinton’s doctor has revealed that she was diagnosed with pneumonia. They did not reveal any details that confirmed she had died.

Clinton has not passed away. Rather she recently appeared on CNN in an interview with host Christiane Amanpour. The video was released on Oct. 5, 2023. (RELATED: Are Wages Keeping Up With Inflation?)

This is not the first time misinformation has been shared online. Check Your Fact debunked a claim that Venus Williams refused to compete against a transgender athlete.
