A video shared on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, claims to show Palestinian protesters evading Israeli forces by waving Indian flags.

Verdict: False

The video was taken in Iraq in August 2023. It is unrelated to the current conflict and events surrounding Israel and Hamas.

Fact Check:

Pro-Palestinian protests have occurred across the world, with up to 100,000 protesters gathering in London, according to the Times of Israel. Other protests occurred in other countries, such as France and Germany, the outlet reported.

Social media users are sharing videos claiming that pro-Palestinian protesters were able to evade Israeli forces by waving Indian flags. One post reads, “People of a particular community of Palestine r leaving Palestine using d Indian Flag bcoz Israeli soldiers will not attack them after seeing d Tricolor.” (RELATED: X Video Shows High-Rise Buildings Being Demolished In China, Is not Linked To Israel-Hamas War)

However, this video predates the current conflict. Through a reverse image search, Check Your Fact found that the video was posted on Instagram in August 2023 by an account. The video’s caption says it was taken during the Arabeen walk. The Arabeen walk is a religious pilgrimage in Iraq to a shrine, according to Wikipedia.

“This video is not from Palestine. It is from Karbala in Iraq and I shot it on August 30, 2023. My wife is in the group of women walking and we were doing the religious walk of Arbaeen from Najaf to Karbala,” Ali Haq, the husband of Falaq, the person who took the video, told Boom Live.

Misinformation surrounding the Israeli-Hamas conflict is not new. Check Your Fact debunked a claim that Qatar threatened to stop gas supplies to the world if the bombing in Gaza does not stop.
