A viral image shared on X, the social media platform previously known as Twitter, purports a World Cup qualifier game is taking place between Israel and Palestine on Nov. 16.

Verdict: False

The purported qualifier game between Israel and Palestine does not appear on FIFA’s website or its verified social media accounts. In addition, a FIFA Communications spokesperson denied the claim’s validity in an email to Check Your Fact.

Fact Check:

Israel has agreed to pause its operations in Gaza for four hours a day beginning Thursday, the White House said, according to The Associated Press. The humanitarian pauses will be announced at least three hours in advance, National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said, the outlet reported.

“Why is nobody talking about this game?” the X post, viewed over 20,000 times, reads. The post includes an image that purports Israel and Palestine are playing a World Cup qualifier game on Nov. 16.

The claim is false, however. There is no mention of the purported World Cup qualifier between Israel and Palestine set for Nov. 16 on FIFA’s website nor its verified social media accounts. Likewise, according to the Union of European Football Associations’ (UEFA) website, Israel will play a qualifier game against Switzerland on Nov. 15.

The Times of Israel also reported on the match between Israel and Switzerland set for Nov. 15, noting that it will take place in Hungary. Additionally, Israel will play a match with Romania in Hungary on Nov. 18, the outlet indicated. (RELATED: No, Photo Does Not Show Lionel Messi Holding Up An Israeli Flag)

Similarly, Palestine is set to play a qualifier match against Lebanon on Nov. 16 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), according to Fan Nation Futbol. Following this match, Palestine will play a World Cup qualifier match against Australia on Nov. 21 in Kuwait, Outlook India reported.

Check Your Fact found no credible news reports suggesting a Nov. 16 World Cup qualifier game would take place between Israel and Palestine, either.

Furthermore, a FIFA Communications spokesperson denied the claim’s validity in an email to Check Your Fact.

“This information you are referring to is incorrect,” the spokesperson said.
