A video shared on Instagram allegedly shows Italian flags being displayed at a pro-Palestinian protest.

Verdict: False

The claim is inaccurate. The flags represent the Welfare Party of India, not Italy.

Fact Check:

Former British Home Secretary Suella Braverman has faced criticism after referring to pro-Palestinian protestors as “hate marchers,” according to Al Jazeera. She also said the protests featured “a large number of bad actors” who are “chanting for the erasure of Israel from the map,” The Independent reported.

An Instagram video purportedly shows Italian flags being brought to a pro-Palestinian protest. In the video, a large group can be seen marching with signs and flags behind a banner that reads “We Indians With Gaza Resist.”

“Protesters In Kerala India Accidentally Brought The Italian Flag Instead Of The Palestine Flag To Pro-Hamas Protest,” text overlaid on the video reads.

The video’s text is inaccurate, however. Although similar to Italy’s, the flags are actually that of the Welfare Party of India, which can be seen on its website. Additionally, the banner in the video says “Welfare Party Kerala.”

In a thread on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, the Welfare Party of India addressed the claims surrounding the video, confirming that the flags represent the Welfare Party of India, not Italy. (RELATED: Video Of Orthodox Jews Burning Israeli Flag Is Old)
