FACT CHECK: Video Claims To Show Israeli Troops Raising Flag Over Al-Shifa Hospital

A video shared on X, formerly Twitter, claims to show Israeli troops raising the Israeli flag over Al-Shifa hospital.

Verdict: Misleading

The troops are raising the Israeli flag on a Gaza school, not the hospital.

Fact Check:

Israel has accused Hamas of using Al-Shifa hospital as a command center, according to CNN. Israel has posted images and videos showing some military equipment and a tunnel shaft at the hospital complex, the outlet reported.

Social media users are claiming to show Israeli troops raising a flag over the hospital. One user wrote, “This is the IOF putting up a flag at Al-Shifa Hospital. A hospital whose patients they terrorized, starved, and bombed for over a month. A hospital whose nurses and doctors and families were killed. They call this victory. They colonized a hospital.”

However, the video shown was taken at a different location. Different reporters and open-source intelligence analysts found that the video was actually taken at a Gaza boys’ school. For example, BBC Verify reporter Shayan Sardarizadeh debunked the claim on X, citing Le Monde visual investigations journalist Arthur Carpentier.

Qatari outlet Doha News also identified the location as a school. GeoConfirmed, an account that geolocates videos in various conflicts, also confirmed that the video was taken at the Gaza school, not the Al-Shifa hospital. (RELATED: Russia Today Report Showing Tunnels In Gaza Is From 2021)
