Verdict: False

The video is from Mexico, not the Israeli-Hamas war in 2023.

Fact Check:

Israel has expanded its ground and air campaign against Hamas, the terror group that controls Gaza, with airstrikes killing dozens of Palestinians, according to The Associated Press. (RELATED: Image Of Israeli Soldiers Celebrating Hanukkah Appears To Be AI-Generated)

Social media users are sharing a video of an explosion, claiming it shows the Israeli-Hamas war. The video’s caption reads, “Palestine and Israel are getting hotter.”

This claim, however, is false. Through a reverse image search, Check Your Fact found that the video is from Mexico, not the Israeli-Hamas war. The video was posted to YouTube in 2016 by Storyful with the title, “Dramatic video shows fireworks explosion at market in Tultepec, Mexico.”

“Huge clouds of smoke, fire, and fireworks were launched into the air in an enormous explosion at a fireworks market in Tultepec, Mexico. The National Coordinator of Civil Protection reported that at least 60 people were injured as of 4:30 pm local time, December 20, but no deaths had been reported,” partially reads the description.

The incident was reported by The Guardian. The Guardian reported that at least 31 people died in the explosion. AFP Fact Check also debunked this claim.

Check Your Fact has debunked several claims related to the Israeli-Hamas war since the Oct. 7 terrorist attacks. For example, Check Your Fact recently debunked an image claiming to show Israeli tanks in Gaza.
