A post shared on social media purports country music star Garth Brooks was kicked out of a Toby Keith tribute show.

Verdict: False

The claim is inaccurate.

Fact Check:

Toby Keith died on Feb. 5 after more than two years of battling stomach cancer, Today reported. He was diagnosed with cancer in fall of 2021 and publicly shared this news in June 2022.

A post shared on Facebook alleges that Brooks was asked to leave because he is too liberal. The post shares an image of each of the musicians.

Text on the photos read, “Garth Brooks Kicked Out OF Toby Keith’s Tribute Show ‘Toby Wouldn’t Have Wanted A Woke Person Here.'”

The claim is inaccurate. The claim stems from a satirical website called SpaceXMania. The article claims that reports indicate that Brooks’ political opinions are the reason he was asked to leave.

The website self identifies as parody. They write, “These articles are meant to be humorous and are often entirely made up. We make no claim that the information presented in these articles is true or accurate.” (Image Allegedly Showing Chris Evans Signing An Israeli Bomb Intended for Gaza Is Miscaptioned)

Brooks released a statement honoring Keith saying in part, “He was ALWAYS Toby…all the way up to his passing. Yes, he might have looked thinner than the larger than life cowboy we all saw on stage, but he was still that no filter, very loud, honest guy he was in the beginning.”

This is not the first time misinformation was shared online. Check Your Fact debunked a claim that Elon Musk claimed he would rather drink sewer water than watch Taylor Swift at the Super Bowl.
