The claim is false. Both a video from C-SPAN and an image from The Associated Press show multiple American flags on stage at this year’s convention.

Fact Check:

Gus Walz, son of 2024 Democratic vice presidential nominee and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, was seen crying as his dad formally accepted his party’s nomination during the 2024 DNC, according to The Associated Press. “That’s my dad,” the younger Walz said during his dad’s acceptance speech, the outlet reported.

The X video claims there were no American flags at the 2024 DNC. The video shares the view from inside the United Center in Chicago, Illinois, where the 2024 DNC is being held. “An empty arena for the DNC and not one American flag can be found,” the video’s caption reads.

Another iteration of the claim, shared on X by political analyst and commentator Matt Couch, has received over 500,000 views as of writing.

The claim is false. Video of this year’s DNC shared by C-SPAN via YouTube shows multiple American flags on stage at the convention. The flags are visible at the video’s 3:31:07 mark.

Likewise, Check Your Fact found no credible news reports to support the claim. In fact, the opposite is true. On Aug. 21, PolitiFact debunked the claim. The outlet also cited the video from C-SPAN as well as a photo from The Associated Press showing multiple American flags on stage during the convention. Additionally, the claim is neither referenced on the DNC’s website nor its verified social media accounts.

This is not the first time a false claim about a Democratic event has circulated online. Check Your Fact previously debunked an image shared on Facebook that claimed there were no American flags at an August 6 campaign rally held in Philadelphia by 2024 Democratic nominee Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate Walz.

Check Your Fact contacted the DNC regarding the claim but they declined to comment.
