FACT CHECK: Did Coca-Cola ‘Cut Ties’ With Taylor Swift After She Endorsed Kamala Harris For President?
A post shared on Facebook claims Coca-Cola will not work with musician Taylor Swift after she endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for the 2024 presidential election.
Verdict: False
The post is inaccurate. The claim was originally posted by a satirical website.
Fact Check:
Swift made an Instagram post endorsing Harris and one encouraging her followers to vote, the latter of which drove over 400,000 visitors to vote.gov, according to The Independent. A YouGov poll found that only eight percent of respondents said the endorsement would make them “somewhat” or “much more likely” to vote for her, but a poll shows the majority said they would not be swayed by a celebrity, the outlet reported.
A Facebook post claims that Swift’s endorsement of Harris has driven Coca-Cola to “cut ties” with her. It shows an image of Swift alongside a picture of a Coca-Cola billboard.
“Coca-Cola Cuts Ties With Taylor Swift Over Harris Endorsement,” the post reads. “‘We Don’t Support Her Endorsement.'”
This post is inaccurate, however. The claim was posted by a Facebook account called SpaceX Fanclub in which it has a disclaimer that says “This is Satire post” and includes a satire label on the photo shared. It was posted to Esspots as well, where it also shows a satire label. The site has a disclaimer page saying that it “specializes in satire, parody, and humor” and that “nothing on this website is real.”
There are no credible news reports to corroborate this claim. Swift collaborated with Coca-Cola for a Diet Coke campaign in 2014, according to the brand’s website. (RELATED: Did Taylor Swift’s Endorsement Of Kamala Harris Lead To 400,000 New Voter Registrations In 24 Hours?)
