FACT CHECK: No, This Image Does Not Show Toilet Bombed By Hezbollah Operative In 2024

A photo shared on X allegedly shows an image of a destroyed toilet that a Hezbollah operative bombed.

Verdict: False

The photo is miscaptioned. It was originally posted by the South China Morning Post in January 2020 and shows a damaged toilet in Hong Kong.

Fact Check:

Multiple people were killed and thousands more were injured after communication devices exploded across Lebanon, some used by the armed group Hezbollah, according to BBC. Tuesday’s blasts killed at least 12 people and injured nearly 3,000, while Wednesday’s blasts killed 20 and injured at least 450, the outlet reported.

An X image allegedly shows a toilet that was bombed by a Hezbollah operative. It appears to show a white toilet with many charred parts, the seat broken into several parts on the floor.

“Some Hezbollah operative blew up while taking a dump,” the post reads. (RELATED: No, Facebook Video Does Not Show Netanyahu Reacting To Lebanese Pager Attack)

This photo is miscaptioned, however. The image is not recent, but instead was originally used in a Jan. 28, 2020 article from the South China Morning Post and was taken in Hong Kong, not Lebanon. A suspected homemade bomb caused the explosion, the second toilet in Hong Kong to be destroyed within a 24 hour period. China Daily also reported on the incident.

There are no credible news reports to corroborate the claim of a Hezbollah operative blowing up a toilet in particular.

Snopes also debunked this claim.
