FACT CHECK: Did Biden Say He Would Not Give More Resources To Helene Recovery?

A post shared on social media purports that President Joe Biden told reporters that he refuses to send more aid to help recover from Hurricane Helene.

Verdict: False

The caption misrepresents the contents of the video.

Fact Check:

The death toll of Hurricane Helene has risen to over 200, the majority of these deaths occurring in North Carolina, NBC News reported. The Federal Government has deployed 1,000 troops to assist the National Guard in recovery efforts as hundreds are missing, according to the outlet.

The post shared on Facebook purports that Biden said he is not sending anymore resources to aid in Hurricane Helene recovery. In the video, Biden stands a few feet away from an airplane and a black car as he speaks to reporters.

The caption reads, “Biden Says There Are No More Resources the Federal Gov’t Is Adding for the Hurricane Victims.”

The claim is inaccurate. The video was misrepresented. The video was taken on Sept. 30 and shows Biden saying that the federal government is giving “everything” they have to the recovery effort.

The White House transcripts show that the President said, “we gave — are giving them all the — all — everything we have.” The reporter then followed up by saying “Are there any more resources the federal government could be giving them?” Biden then responds by saying, No. We’ve given them — we have pre planned a significant amount of it, even though they didn’t ask for it yet — had — hadn’t asked for it yet.” He did not say that he refuses to give more relief.

Furthermore, Biden recently put out a message saying, “I’ve directed my team to provide every available resource as fast as possible to communities in the wake of Hurricane Helene.” Biden may also request that Congress release more funds to the recovery effort for Hurricane Helene, The Hill reported.  (Fact Check: X Video Of Hurricane Helen Includes Footage Of Floods In Czech Republic)

This is not the first time misinformation about Hurricane Helene has circulated online. Check Your Fact recently debunked a claim that video of dogs leading cattle to safety was a result of the recent storm.
