FACT CHECK: Did Kamala Harris Announce That She Would Legalize Marijuana For Black Americans?

A post made on X claims that Vice President Kamala Harris announced that she will legalize marijuana for Black Americans.

Verdict: Misleading

Harris pledged to legalize marijuana for all Americans, including Black Americans.

Fact Check:

Harris announced a new Opportunity Agenda for Black Men at an October 14th rally in Eerie, Pennsylvania. The agenda contains a plan for five objectives, including a plan for “Legalizing recreational marijuana and creating opportunities for Black Americans to succeed in this new industry.”

A post made on X claims that Harris announced that she will legalize marijuana for Black Americans only, excluding other races. The caption reads, “🚨BREAKING: Kamala Harris just announced that she is going to legalize Marljuana for Black Americans. Again, why are we singling out races?”

The claim is misleading. Harris pledged to legalize marijuana for all Americans, including Black Americans. Once recreational marijuana has been legalized for all Americans, Harris’ Opportunity Agenda for Black Men plans to create more job opportunities for Black men in the new industry. In a post made on X Oct. 15, Harris uploaded a photo that reads, “Kamala Harris will Legalize recreational marijuana  Breaking down unjust barriers that hold Black men and other Americans back and making sure Black Americans have opportunities to succeed as the marketplace takes shape.” The post’s caption reads, “No one should go to jail for smoking weed.”

No credible sources have reported that Harris plans on legalizing recreational marijuana for Black Americans only. Check Your Fact has reached out to the Harris campaign for comment.
