FACT CHECK: Facebook Video Falsely Claims P. Diddy Died
A video shared on Facebook claims rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs died.
Verdict: False
Combs is incarcerated at the Brooklyn Metropolitan Detention Center, according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons’ website. There is no evidence suggesting the rapper recently died. A spokesperson for the Brooklyn Metropolitan Detention Center confirmed to Check Your Fact via email that Combs is still incarcerated.
Fact Check:
Combs has been accused of raping Ashley Parham “as payback” for suggesting he was involved in the murder of fellow rapper Tupac Shakur, according to BBC News. Parham recently filed a lawsuit against Combs in relation to the alleged assault, the outlet reported.
The Facebook video, which has received over 500 likes as of writing, claims Combs died. “Goodbye Rapper! Diddy on his hospital bed, he died in the arms of his loved ones, sad details!” text overlay on the video reads. The video also features what appears to be a photo of the rapper.
The claim is false. According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons’ website, Combs is listed as an inmate at the Brooklyn Metropolitan Detention Center. The website provides Combs’ register number and indicates the rapper’s release date is currently “unknown.”
Likewise, Check Your Fact found no credible news reports to support the claim. If Combs had actually died, multiple media outlets would’ve covered it, yet none have. In fact, the opposite is true. On Oct. 17, Lead Stories debunked the claim. The outlet also indicated Combs is still incarcerated, according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons’ website. Additionally, the claim does not appear on Combs’ verified Facebook, X, or Instagram accounts. Furthermore, Combs allegedly shared a post to his verified Instagram account from jail in recognition of his youngest daughter’s birthday, according to the Economic Times.
Furthermore, a spokesperson for the Brooklyn Metropolitan Detention Center confirmed to Check Your Fact via email that Combs is still incarcerated.
