A post made on X claims that McDonald’s made an official statement regarding Harris’ employment history with the corporation.

Verdict: Misleading

McDonald’s gave an internal message to its employees regarding this claim. McDonald’s has not yet made an official statement.

Fact Check:

Presidential candidate Kamala Harris first mentioned an employment history with the McDonald’s Corporation during her 2020 run in the Democratic presidential primary, according to Newsweek. Five years later, a debate as to whether or not Harris actually worked as a McDonald’s employee is still ongoing.

A post made on X claims that McDonald’s made an official statement regarding Harris’ employment history with the fast-food company. The caption reads, “🚨BREAKING: McDonald’s just went on the record today and officially put out a statement saying that Kamala Harris NEVER worked at McDonald’s. This means that Kamala Harris lied about her resume on top of lying about her heritage and her grandmothers identity.”

The claim is misleading. According to The Washington Post, McDonald’s sent an internal message to its employees explaining that, while there are no records of Harris’ employment with the corporation, there is no reason to believe the Democratic nominee never worked at a McDonald’s. A McDonald’s franchisee made a post on X regarding the claim. The caption reads, “As for whether the Vice President worked at McD’s, I doubt Corporate knows. As a franchisee, I can say that even I wouldn’t know who worked for me 10 years ago unless I knew them personally. Our HR system only goes back to 2017, and records roll off yearly.”

McDonald’s has not made an official statement regarding Harris’ employment history. Check Your Fact has reached out to Harris’ communications team and the McDonald’s Corporation for comment.
