A post shared on Facebook claims Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s son Yair was purportedly assassinated.

Verdict: False

The claim is false. Neither Netanyahu nor his son appear to have publicly commented on the claim, and there is no other evidence supporting the claim.

Fact Check:

Israeli strikes that occurred across Gaza on Wednesday killed 42 people, according to Reuters. Among the total number of deaths, 37 occurred in northern Gaza, the outlet reported.

The Facebook post claims Netanyahu’s son Yair was purportedly assassinated. “Hebrew Walla website: Shin Bet confirms the assassination of Yair, Netanyahu’s younger son, in Caesarea, and the Knesset calls for a small meeting,” the post, which features a photo of Netanyahu with his son, reads.

Besides Facebook, the claim circulated on X, the social media platform previously called Twitter, where it was viewed over 60,000 times.

The claim is false. The claim does not appear to be referenced on Netanyahu’s website or his verified social media accounts. Likewise, Netanyahu’s son Yair does not appear to have publicly commented on the claim.

In addition, Check Your Fact did not find any credible news reports to support the claim. Actually, the opposite is true. On Oct. 21, NewsMeter debunked the claim.

The claim follows an Oct. 19 article from BBC News, which indicated that Netanyahu was “undeterred from his war aims” following an attack from Hezbollah on his private residence in Caesarea. According to the outlet, Netanyahu and his wife were not home at the time of the attack, and “no one was injured.” (RELATED: Did Yemen Offer To Send 400,000 Troops To Eliminate Israel On Behalf Of Iran?)

Back in August 2024, Netanyahu asked to boost his son Yair’s security detail following “reports that Iran could seek to assassinate high-profile Israelis abroad in retaliation for the killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran on July 31,” according to the Times of Israel. The younger Netanyahu lives in Miami, Florida, the outlet reported.

Check Your Fact has contacted Netanyahu’s office for comment.
