FACT CHECK: No, Elon Musk Did Not Endorse Caitlin Clark
A post shared on social media purports that SpaceX CEO Elon Musk endorsed Caitlin Clark and will donate $10 million to her.
Verdict: False
The claim stems from satire.
Fact Check:
Tesla share price spike over 18% recently in part due to Musk telling investors about the company’s vehicle delivery numbers, Forbes reported. Tesla CEO Elon Musk has increased his wealth by over $20 Billion due to the stock rising as Musk is Tesla’s largest shareholder.
A post shared on Facebook alleges that Musk publicly supported Clark and will donate to her. The post shared an image of Clark posing for a photo with three kids and one of Musk with his hands in a triangle.
The caption reads, “Breaking News: Elon Musk Endorses Caitlin Clark, Will Soon Donate $10 Million: ‘You Are the Pride of America, I Support You.'”
The claim is inaccurate. There is no record of Musk making any such statements calling Clark “the Pride of America,” on his X account. Likewise, Clark has made no reference to this statement on any of her social media accounts. (RELATED: Did Caitlin Clark Turn Down Offer From Nike?)
A similar claim appeared on a satirical social media account called SpaceX Fanclub. The post reads, “Elon Musk Backs Caitlin Clark, Offers $10 Million Endorsement: ‘I Support You, Caitlin Clark’ – Satire.” The account’s bio self identifies as parody, “We post SATIRE, nothing on this page is real.”
This is not the first time misinformation has circulated online. Check Your Fact recently debunked a claim that Keir Starmer called London a “great Muslim city.”
