A post being shared on X claims that the “Kamala Harris Admin” raided the Amos Miller Organic Milk Farm in Pennsylvania.

Verdict: False

The farm was raided by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, not the federal government.

Fact Check:

A post being shared on X claims that “the Amish have chosen a side” after the “Kamala Harris Admin” raided the farm. It is implied that the Vice President was targeting the rural Amish farm.

This is untrue, however. The farm was raided by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, who is wholly independent of the Biden/Harris administration. There is no evidence that the federal government was involved at all, and there is no mention in any stories that they were present at the time.

The Amos Miller Organic Milk Farm is a private membership food co-op in Bird-in-Hand, Pennsylvania that found itself in the news in January 2024 thanks to a raid on their property by government officials. They were being accused of endangering public health by selling raw milk that was tainted with E. Coli.

Many conservative voices have come to the Amish farm’s defense, and that is continuing as Pennsylvania is a key battleground state in the 2024 election. Rep. Thomas Massie, R-KY, and Donald Trump Jr., among others, had criticized the raid, calling it “shameful” and an example of government overreach.

Furthermore, owner Amos Miller has faced authorities numerous times before this, with many happening prior to Kamala Harris becoming Vice President. The Centers for Disease Control attributed a Listeria outbreak to his farm in 2016, and he also was sued in 2019 by the U.S. Attorney’s office on behalf of the FDA. Both instances occurred under the Trump administration.

The part of rural Pennsylvania known as Amish country is usually a Republican stronghold. Pennsylvania law does not ban the sale of raw milk, however a permit is required, and the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture told Lead Stories in an email that Mr. Miller did not have one.
