Verdict: False

The claim is false. A transcript of the interview shows Harris answered a question about what would happen if her opponent, 2024 Republican nominee and former President Donald Trump, were to declare victory while votes are still being counted.

Fact Check:

A final national poll from the New York Times/Siena College found Harris and Trump are tied 48% to 48% for the popular vote, the outlet reported. The poll comes less than two weeks before Election Day, the outlet indicated.

The tweet shared via Instagram, which has garnered over 8,000 likes as of writing, claims Harris purportedly said she would not accept the results of the 2024 election during a recent NBC News interview.

“IN CASE YOU MISSED IT! Kamala Harris sat down for an interview with @NBCNews last night where she…Proclaimed she would not accept the outcome of the election and has a team of lawyers ready to overturn them,” the text of the tweet reads.

The post was originally shared on X, the social media platform previously known as Twitter, by conservative media personality Mark Kaye.

The claim is false. A transcript of the interview shows Harris answered a question about what would happen if Trump were to declare victory while votes are still being counted.

“Last election, the former president came out on election night and declared victory before all the votes were counted. What is your plan if he does that again in two weeks?” NBC News reporter Hallie Jackson asked Harris, the same transcript shows.

“Well, let me say this, we’ve got two weeks to go, and I’m very much grounded in the present, in terms of the task at hand, and we will deal with election night and the days after, as they come, and we have the resources and the expertise and the focus on that as well,” Harris replied.

“So, you have teams ready to go. Is that what you’re saying? Are you thinking about that as a possibility?” Jackson asked a follow-up question.

“Of course,” Harris said.

Likewise, Harris does not appear to have publicly commented on the claim via her 2024 campaign website or her verified social media accounts.

In addition, Check Your Fact found no credible news reports to support the claim. Actually, the opposite is true. On Oct. 25, PolitiFact debunked the claim, citing the same transcript of the NBC News interview between Jackson and Harris.
