A post on X shows a news report implying a man in Lawrence, Massachusetts was turned away from voting in the 2024 elections after being told by officials that he already did.

Verdict: Misleading

This news clip refers to a case from 2023 and has nothing to do with the 2024 election.

Fact Check:

The 2024 Presidential Election will take place on Nov. 5 between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump. Multiple polls suggest the race is a virtual tie, according to NBC News.

A post on X shows a news report from NBC10 in Boston about an unnamed man who claims he was not allowed to vote in person, with officials stating he already voted. They show home security camera footage of an unnamed woman taking ballots out of the man’s mailbox at his home in Lawrence, Massachusetts. The report also shows a second woman that claims to have had her signature forged on her mail-in ballot, preventing her from having a vote counted as well.

While the news report is completely legit, the X post that highlights it is misleading. These voter fraud cases happened in 2023, and have no bearing on this year’s election. The same video can be found on NBC10’s YouTube channel, where we can see that it was uploaded 11 months ago, predating the 2024 Presidential Election.

Two women, Fidelina Santiago and Jennifer Lopez, were indicted on 16 charges that include obstruction of voting and conspiracy to vote illegally. Santiago actually won her election for Lawrence City-Councelor, and the case for both looks to be still pending.

It is unknown if the unnamed woman seen going through the man’s mailbox and stealing ballots was involved with Santiago and Lopez’s alleged scheme.
