FACT CHECK: Did A Transgender Person Receive Two Mail-In Ballots in Illinois?

A post being shared on X claims that a transgender person in Illinois received two mail-in ballots.

Verdict: False

The envelopes pictured are applications, not actual ballots.

Fact Check:

The 2024 Presidential Election cycle saw record amounts of voters voting early and mailing in their ballots before Election Day. Multiple claims of voter fraud have appeared on social media, including stories out of Arkansas and Kentucky which Check Your Fact has already reported on and determined to be inaccurate.

A post being shared on X claims that a newly transgender individual received two ballots in Illinois, one for their current identity and another for the old one. The creator of the post says they were tipped off “in private.” (RELATED: Was Trump’s Name Misspelled On Ballots In Ohio?)

The post is misleading, however. These are not ballots that were received, but were ballot applications. By clicking on the images to enlarge them, it can clearly be seen on the envelope that states these are simply applications for mail-in balloting.

There is also no proof that this was a transgender person receiving the ballots. One application was addressed to Jacob and the other to Isabella, with the rest of the information blurred out. There is no evidence to determine if these applications are meant for one person with a new identity or two different people.

Standard practice calls for any duplicate ballots to be canceled upon receipt. Surrogates from the Trump campaign have been watching, and have confirmed this to be the case themselves.
