A post on Facebook claims that the ‘Red Hats’ “engaged and killed” Department of Homeland Security agents that were escorting 100 illegal immigrants to a voting location somewhere in Maricopa County the morning of Election Day. “Red Hats this morning engaged and killed DHS agents who were escorting a group of 100 illegal immigrants to a voting location in Maricopa County AZ,” the post reads.”
There is no proof that this happened, however. The purported information can be traced back to the X user RealRawNews. While not apparent on the page, the website run by the account states in its “About us” webpage that “This website contains humor, parody, and satire.”
Check Your Fact has searched Google for any information about this but found no other credible sources reporting such news. There is also no mention of this event on the official X page of the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.
A search of the red hats term found that the top result leads to a famous women’s group called the ‘Red Hat Society,’ which purports to “encourage women in their quest to get the most out of their life.” There is no other information online about the Red Hats that supposedly killed agents.
