A viral screenshot of a tweet shared on X claims London Mayor Sadiq Khan said farmers protesting in the U.K. is “another example of racism.”

Verdict: False

The claim is not referenced on the website of the London Mayor’s Office or his verified social media accounts. In addition, U.K.-based outlet Full Fact debunked the claim on Nov. 25.

Fact Check:

Khan has unveiled plans for 6,000 new rent-controlled homes that will be available to barristers and solicitors by 2030, according to The Telegraph. Other professionals, including clergy, will also be eligible for the homes as long as their annual household income is less than 67,000 pounds, the outlet reported.

The screenshot, viewed over 900,000 times as of writing, claims Khan said farmers protesting in the U.K. is “another example of racism.”

“The London Mayor has said the farmers protesting today over inheritance taxes is another example of racism, Islamophobia and anti Muslim on our streets. He said the far-right needs to be stamped out,” the screenshot of the tweet reads. The original tweet was shared on the platform by user @HJB_News_ on Nov. 19.

The claim is false. Check Your Fact conducted an advanced search of Khan’s verified X account and found no reference to the purported claim. Likewise, an advanced search of Khan’s government X account also does not return any results for the claim. The claim does not appear on Khan’s verified Facebook and Instagram accounts or his website, either.

In addition, Check Your Fact found no credible news reports to support the claim. Actually, the opposite is true. On Nov. 25, Full Fact debunked the claim. (RELATED: No, This Video Does Not Show Vladimir Putin’s Airplane Escort)

Although the claim is false, U.K. farmers have been recently protesting their government’s decision to scrap a tax from its budget that “exempts agricultural property from inheritance tax,” according to The Associated Press. As of April 2026, farms worth more than 1 million pounds will face a 20% inheritance tax, the outlet reported.

Check Your Fact has contacted Khan’s office for comment.
