FACT CHECK: Claim That ABC CEO Announced Plans To Cancel ‘The View’ Is Satire
A post shared on Facebook claims the CEO of ABC has purportedly announced plans to cancel “The View.”
Verdict: False
The claim is false and originally stems from a Dec. 11 post shared by SpaceX Fanclub, a satirical Facebook page.
Fact Check:
Whoopi Goldberg and Ana Navarro recently clashed on “The View” over when to start panicking about President-Elect Donald Trump’s return to the Oval Office, according to the New York Post. Goldberg suggested viewers enjoy the holidays and not panic yet, which upset Navarro, the outlet reported.
The Facebook post claims the CEO of ABC has purportedly announced plans to cancel “The View.” “ABC CEO Announces Plans to Cancel ‘The View,’ Criticizes It as TV’s Worst Show Ever,” the post reads. The post features side-by-side photos of what appears to be ABC’s CEO and the hosts of “The View.”
The claim is false and originally stems from a Dec. 11 post shared by SpaceX Fanclub, a satirical Facebook page. The page clearly identifies itself as posting satirical content, including a disclaimer via its bio stating that “nothing on this page is real.” The page’s bio also includes a link to the website “Esspots.com,” a satire site that is a subsidiary of the site SpaceX Mania.com.
The original post shared via the SpaceX Fanclub page has amassed over 1,000 likes as of writing.
Likewise, Check Your Fact did not find the claim referenced on ABC’s website or its verified social media accounts. The claim is not referenced on the verified X account for “The View,” either. (RELATED: Facebook Post Falsely Claims Disney Has Officially Bought TikTok)
In addition, Check Your Fact did not find any credible news reports to support the claim. Actually, the opposite is true. On Dec. 17, Snopes debunked the claim, indicating it originated via the satirical Facebook page. According to the outlet, the post included a photo of ABC News President Almin Karamehmedovic, not the network’s CEO Dana Walden.
