A video shared on X purports to show Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi falling down while using a walker on the House floor during the recent certification of the 2024 presidential election.

Verdict: False

The video has been generated with artificial intelligence (AI) and was originally shared on X by a parody account.

Fact Check:

Pelosi said President-elect Donald Trump should be “triumphant” about his 2024 election victory during a recent appearance on the CBS News program, “Face The Nation,” according to Newsweek. Pelosi also said “it’s really sad” that Trump maintains he won the 2020 presidential election, the outlet reported.

The X video, which has been viewed over 5,000 times as of writing, purports to show Pelosi falling down while using a walker on the House floor during the recent certification of the 2024 presidential election.

In the video, Pelosi, dressed in a green blazer and black pants, repeatedly falls on the House floor ahead of the certification. Pelosi also appears to reject assistance from other lawmakers as she struggles to stand up.

“Term limits asap,” the video’s caption reads.

The claim is false as the video is AI-generated and was originally shared by @PapiTrumpo, an X account known for posting parody content. The account describes itself as sharing “a little bit of parody” via its bio. The original video shared by @PapiTrumpo has garnered over six million views as of writing. Likewise, Check Your Fact conducted a content detection scan using the website, “TrueMedia.org,” and the results indicate the video shows “substantial evidence of manipulation,” including “generation or manipulation of faces” and “voice cloning or generation.”

In addition, Pelosi does not fall on the House floor while using her walker, according to a video shared on YouTube by the Washington Examiner. In the video, Pelosi can be seen wearing the same green blazer and black pants as the AI-generated clip.

“Nancy Pelosi takes walker onto House floor during elector certification vote,” the video’s title reads.

Pelosi also does not appear to have publicly commented on the claim. Furthermore, Snopes debunked the claim on Jan. 7.

Pelosi returned to Washington, D.C., following hip replacement surgery after she fell and was injured during a trip recognizing the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge in Luxembourg in December, according to The Hill.

Check Your Fact has contacted a Pelosi spokesperson and an AI expert for comment.
