A content detection scan using the website “Hive Moderation” indicates the image is 99.3% likely to have been generated with artificial intelligence (AI). Additionally, an AI expert denied the image’s authenticity in an email to Check Your Fact.

Starmer and Deputy Prime Minister and Housing Secretary Angela Rayner recently joined King Charles III on a guided tour of a sustainable housing project in Cornwall, according to BBC News. The U.K. government has set a goal of building 1.5 million new homes by 2029, the outlet reported.

The Facebook image purports to show Starmer appearing to enjoy a lobster dinner. “The British PM feasts like a Champagne Socialist pig while our elderly freeze. Disgraceful. Resign Now!” the post’s caption reads.

The claim is false. Check Your Fact conducted a content detection scan using the website “Hive Moderation,” and the results indicate the image is 99.3% likely to have been AI-generated. According to the results of the same scan, Stable Diffusion was most likely used to create the image.

Likewise, Check Your Fact did not find any reference to the image on Starmer’s website or his verified social media accounts. In addition, Check Your Fact found no credible news reports to support the claim. Actually, the opposite is true. Furthermore, Dr. Walter Scheirer, an AI expert at the University of Notre Dame, denied the image’s authenticity in an email to Check Your Fact.

“This is a badly rendered AI-generated photo depicting the U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer, which is filled with noticeable artifacts that are characteristic of AI. None of the food looks realistic, appearing more like abstract art than any recognizable cuisine. More importantly, Starmer’s left hand has six fingers,” Scheirer said.
