A post shared on Facebook claims President Donald Trump vowed to liberate Nigerian secessionists.

Verdict: False

There is no evidence that this occurred. It is distorted by artificial intelligence.

Fact Check:

Social media users are claiming that Trump said he would liberate Nigerian secessionists in Bifara. He is alleged to have said, “After I finish with the Ukraine war in Russia, I will turn to Nigeria to liberate the Igbo people of Biafra.”

This claim is false. No credible news outlets have reported that Trump pledged to liberate the Igbo people of Biafra. A wider internet search also did not yield any results for this claim.

Through a reverse image search, Check Your Fact found that the video is from January 14, 2021 and shows Trump talking about the January 6, 2021 Capitol attack. He does not mention Nigeria or Biafra in the video, according to a Check Your Fact review. (RELATED: No, DOGE Did Not Discover Louisiana Man With 34 Different Social Security Numbers)

The video has been distorted by artificial intelligence to muddle Trump’s words. AFP Fact Check reported that an “inspection reveals noticeable defects around Trump’s mouth and chin, a typical sign that the video was generated using an AI tool.”
