FACT CHECK: Did Trump Replace A Portrait Of Abe Lincoln With A Jewish Leader?

A post shared on X claims President Donald Trump replaced a portrait of President Abraham Lincoln with a portrait of a Jewish leader.

Verdict: False

The image has been photoshopped. The original image still remains.

Fact Check:

Social media users are claiming that Trump replaced Lincoln’s portrait with a portrait of Menachem Mendel Schneerson. One user wrote, “🚨BREAKING 🚨 Donald Trump has replaced the Abraham Lincoln portrait, painted by Edward Dalton Marchant in 1863, with a portrait of the chabad lubavitch rebbe Menachem Mendel Schneerson. THIS IS WHAT I VOTED FOR!”

This claim is false. Through a reverse image search, Check Your Fact found that the original image was taken in January 2025, right after Trump assumed office. The image was taken by Wall Street Journal (WSJ) photographer Shuran Huang and shared by the WSJ on Instagram.

Tal Hagin, a research fellow at Fake Reporter, also debunked the claim. (RELATED: No, Trump Did Not Refer To Nikola Tesla As A ‘Modern-Day Isaac Neutron’)

“This isn’t real. The portrait of Abraham Lincoln was not replaced. This photograph was taken by Shuran Huang for the WSJ on January 21, 2025, and someone has the Rebbe’s portrait simply overlaid on the original. If you look closely, you can even see where they messed up,” Hagin tweeted.
