Fact Check:
Tesla drivers in New York City are reportedly being charged up to an additional $1,000 a month to park their cars in private garages, according to the New York Post. Kyle Halperin, president of Wynne Parking, said the charge is part of “a risk analysis” and is “based on things that affect insurance such as the value and weight,” the outlet reported.
The Threads post, which has received over 20,000 likes as of writing, claims the Tesla showroom in Manhattan has “closed permanently.”
“TESLA Manhattan closed permanently!” the post reads. The post does not provide a source to support its claim.
The claim is false. A keyword search shows there is a Tesla showroom located in Manhattan at 860 Washington St. However, Check Your Fact did not find any credible news reports indicating the showroom has “closed permanently,” as the Threads post suggests.
Likewise, Tesla does not appear to have issued a press release or social media statement referencing the claim. Tesla CEO Elon Musk also has not publicly commented on the claim via his verified X account @elonmusk.
In addition, Lead Stories debunked the claim on March 19. The outlet called the showroom and spoke with a “Tesla Advisor” who denied the claim’s validity.
“We’re not closed. We are open every day,” the spokesperson said when asked about the claim, according to Lead Stories.
Although the claim is false, six people were arrested at a recent protest at the Tesla Manhattan showroom, the New York Daily News reported. The protest took aim at Musk and his role in leading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), the outlet indicated. (RELATED: Has Elon Musk Launched A Public Campaign To Terminate ‘The View?’)
