FACT CHECK: Viral X Image Does Not Show Authentic Truth Social Post From Trump About ā€˜Ending Tariffsā€™

A viral image shared on X purports to show a recent TRUTH Social post from President Donald Trump about “ending tariffs.”

Verdict: False

The image was posted on X by a self-described news and meme account. Trump did not make the purported TRUTH Social post.

Fact Check:

Ursula von der Leyen, president of the European Commission, said Europe “[has] a strong plan to retaliate” against Trump’s tariffs, according to CNN. A number of Trump’s economic tariffs will be unveiled on April 2, which he has dubbed “Liberation Day,” the outlet reported.

The X image, which has garnered over 600,000 views as of writing, purports to show a recent TRUTH Social post from Trump about “ending tariffs.”

“I am ending all the tariffs today against China, Canada and Mexico. There will be no reciprocal tariffs either. God Bless America,” the text of the purported TRUTH Social post reads.

“WOW!!! THIS IS CRAZY. TRUMP JUST POSTED THIS ON HIS TRUTH SOCIAL ACCOUNT. TARRIF [sic] WAR IS OVER, MASSIVE BULL RUN IS COMING,” the image’s caption reads.

The claim is false. Check Your Fact did not find the purported post on Trump’s TRUTH Social account. Likewise, the remark is not referenced on his personal or government X accounts or his verified social media accounts. The claim also does not appear on the White House’s website or its verified social media accounts.

In addition, Check Your Fact found no credible news reports to support the claim. If Trump had truly decided to end his tariffs, including reciprocal tariffs, then multiple media outlets would’ve covered it, yet none have. Actually, the opposite is true. On April 1, Lead Stories debunked the claim, labeling the image as “fake.”

Furthermore, the X account that shared the image describes itself as posting “news” and “memes.” (RELATED: Has Trump Banned The Atlantic From The White House Briefing Room?)

Check Your Fact has contacted the White House for comment.
