Verdict: False

There is no evidence Trump ever made the statement.

Fact Check:

Trump announced on Twitter early Oct. 2 that he and the first lady had tested positive for COVID-19. He spent three days at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center before returning to the White House, where he will continue treatment for the disease caused by the new coronavirus, according to NPR.

Amid Trump’s COVID-19 diagnosis, social media users shared a screen grab from a video message Trump tweeted from Walter Reed on Oct. 3 with a quote he allegedly said. The full quote reads, “The doctors said they’ve never seen a body kill the Coronavirus like my body. They tested my DNA and it wasn’t DNA. It was USA.”

There is no evidence Trump made the statement. Check Your Fact reviewed the entire video message and found no instances of Trump referencing his DNA in such a manner. A search of the president’s social media accounts and Factbase, an online database that collects Trump’s public statements, also turned up no matching statements.

In Trump’s video message, he thanked the medical staff at Walter Reed, as well as world leaders and other people that wished him well. (RELATED: Did The Trump Campaign Email Supporters Asking For Donations To ‘Help Him Recover’ From COVID-19?)

“I came here, wasn’t feeling so well,” he said. “I feel much better now. We’re working hard to get me all the way back. I have to be back because we still have to make America great again.”
