An image shared on Facebook over 230 times purportedly shows a Time Magazine cover featuring University of Michigan football fans.

Verdict: False

There is no evidence Time Magazine published such a cover. A spokesperson for the publication confirmed the cover is not authentic.

Fact Check:

On Nov. 27, the Michigan Wolverines upset the Ohio State Buckeyes 42-27, ending Michigan’s eight-game losing streak to Ohio, according to CBS Sports. After the game, fans stormed the field and celebrated, as can be seen in this video shared by the verified Twitter account of Fox College Football.

Following the win, some social media users began sharing an image that appeared to show a Time Magazine cover dedicated to the team’s victory. It features a picture of fans rushing the field along with text that reads, “It’s Great. To Be. A Michigan Wolverine.”

The image, however, is not an authentic Time Magazine cover. Check Your Fact searched the publication’s digital vault but found nothing resembling the alleged cover. The post shared on Facebook also notably lacks Time Magazine’s distinct red border. The most recent cover, published on Nov. 22, was dedicated to Shannon Brewer and titled, “The Last Abortion Clinic.”

“This image is not an authentic TIME cover,” confirmed a spokesperson for the publication in an email to Check Your Fact. (RELATED: Did Time Magazine Publish A Cover Calling Donald Trump The ‘Worst. President. Ever’?)

A reverse image search reveals the photo used in the fake cover was originally posted online by a user on the Michigan Wolverines Reddit page on Nov. 28. The post ended up amassing nearly 800 upvotes and received a top comment that reads, “This should be on the cover of TIME magazine.”
