FACT CHECK: Did Ted Cruz Call Adam Schiff A “Son Of A B****”?

A video shared on Facebook purports Republican Texas Sen. Ted Cruz called Democrat California Rep. Adam Schiff a “son of a bitch.”

Verdict: False

There is no evidence that Cruz made this statement.

Fact Check:

Cruz recently found himself in a heated exchange with Democratic Connecticut Senator Chris Murphy on the Senate floor over an objection against the Texas senator’s Securing Our Schools Act, according to Fox News. Schiff has recently blamed former President Donald Trump’s “incendiary rhetoric” for threats against FBI agents, the outlet reported.

The Facebook video, viewed over 14,000 times, claims Cruz called Schiff a “son of a bitch” while in the Senate. “You Son Of A 𝐁*CH” Sen Ted Cruz 𝐀𝐧𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐆𝐞𝐭𝐬 Up and 𝐌𝐎𝐏𝐒 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐅𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐑 with Adam Schiff 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐄𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐦𝐬,” the video’s caption reads. (RELATED: Does This Video Show Ted Cruz Saying He Has Documents That Would Implicate Adam Schiff?)

The caption is baseless. Neither Cruz or Schiff have mentioned any exchange on their verified social media accounts or have issued any press releases regarding the alleged exchange. There are no credible news reports suggesting an exchange featuring profanity between the two occurred.

The video is also irrelevant to the caption. The video is from a May 2022 press conference regarding the rise in gas prices. Cruz did call out President Biden for not taking responsibility for the issue or other subsequent crises, but at no point does the senator mention Schiff by name or indirectly.

Check Your Fact contacted the offices of Cruz and Schiff and will update this piece if a response is provided.

This is not the first time Schiff has been the target of misinformation on social media. Check Your Fact recently debunked a claim that Schiff was to be impeached following a motion from Republican Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan.
