A video shared on Facebook allegedly shows an Iranian father mourning his dead daughter with a dance after she was killed by police.

Verdict: False

This video was not taken in Iran. It is from an Azerbaijani television show.

Fact Check:

Protests erupted in Iran two weeks ago after the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, according to The Washington Post. Approximately 185 people, including children, have been killed in the demonstrations calling for the ousting of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Reuters reported.

The Facebook video appears to show a man dancing during a small gathering. “Iranian father who promised to live long enough to dance at his daughter’s wedding ends up dancing at her funeral after she was killed by the Iranian morality police for not covering her hair,” the post’s caption reads.

The video is not from the current Iranian protests. A reverse image search found that the video is from an Azerbaijani television show called Ata Ocagi. The episode from where the clip originated is available on YouTube and was posted in January 2018.  (RELATED: Viral Image Claims There Were Zero US Casualties In Afghanistan During The Last 18 Months of Donald Trump’s Administration)

Azerbaijani-based journalist Cavid Ağa debunked the claim on Twitter, pointing out that the man in the video is a known Azerbaijani actor.

This man is an actor I personally know. His name is Gurban Ismayilov and this scene is from a famous TV drama Ata Ocağı (Hearth of Father) aired 4 years ago. youtu.be/_CGxBciEWws (starts at 18:40),” Ağa tweeted

This is not the first false claim stemming from the Iranian protests that has spread on social media. Check Your Fact recently debunked a claim that stated Republican Pennsylvania gubernatorial candidate Doug Mastriano praised the Ayatollah for his treatment of women.
