A video shared on Facebook claims to show a November attack on Dzhankoy, Crimea.

Verdict: False

The video shows an explosion in Belgorod, Russia. The explosion took place in August, not November.

Fact Check:

Ukraine has launched attacks against Russia in Crimea, including blowing up a section of the Kerch Bridge, which connects Russia to Crimea, in early October, according to The New York Times. Multiple Russian strikes in Ukraine have also disrupted the country’s power grid on a “colossal” scale, The Guardian reported.

The Facebook video shows a massive fire and claims it shows a Russian airfield on fire. The caption reads, “Ukraine has used drones to strike a Russian-held airfield at Dzhankoy in Crimea. Russian aircraft, Su-25 attack aircraft, and Su-34 bombers are on fire and detonating. A video was published by the Ukrainian armed forces showing the fires and detonations. The attack took place in the late hours of November 16.”

However, through a reverse image search, Check Your Fact found that the video is from August rather than November. The video was posted to Twitter and claims to show an explosion near Belgorod, a city near the Russian-Ukrainian border.

“Belgorod, Russia, the Russian ammunition depot is still burning,” reads the tweet. (RELATED: Does This Photo Show A Gepard Tank Firing At The Sky In Ukraine?)

Similar images of the attack were published in media outlets, such as The Kyiv Post and the Telegraph. Russian villages were evacuated after the attack, according to Reuters. Russia’s Black Sea flagship vessel was damaged and allegedly disabled following a drone attack on a Crimean port in October, according to The Guardian.

Misinformation around the Russian-Ukrainian conflict is not new. Check Your Fact recently debunked a video claiming Ukraine destroyed two Russian gunboats.
