FACT CHECK: Did Planned Parenthood Call For A ‘White Privilege’ Donation?

An image shared on Facebook purportedly shows a post from Planned Parenthood calling on donors to use their “white privilege.”

Verdict: False

This tweet is from a parody account. Planned Parenthood did not make this comment.

Fact Check:

Pueblo City, Colorado, city council is set to vote on Monday on an ordinance that would restrict abortions with in the City, Axios reported. In Congress, Democrat leaders have proposed a bill to subsidize travel for the purpose of abortion, Fox News reported

The Facebook post claims that Planned Parenthood is calling on white Americans to donate to the organization for minorities to access abortion. The alleged tweet was made Nov. 29, which is also known as “Giving Tuesday.”

“Are you Caucasian and would like to use your white privilege to do good?” the post reads in part. “If you visit our website, you can add a note to your donation that specifically requests that your donations are used to help minority groups access abortion. Show that you care on this Giving Tuesday.” (RELATED: Is PayPal Fining Users $2,500 For Misinformation?)

The post comes from a parody account that labels itself in its bio as “Not Planned Parenthood.” This post appears nowhere on any of Planned Parenthood’s verified social media accounts. There are also no credible news reports suggesting that the organization made these comments.

Planned Parenthood’s actual Giving Tuesday tweet did include a link to donate, but called on everyone to donate. The link allows donations to your local Planned Parenthood affiliate and Planned Parenthood Federation of America, or a certain location, but does not allow the option to donate to certain groups of people or make a note of white privilege.

This is not the first time false information has been shared on social media. Check Your Fact recently debunked a post claiming former President Donald Trump defended Kanye West’s anti-Semitic comments.
