FACT CHECK: Did Elaine Chao Call Trump A ‘Chinese B****’?
An image shared on Facebook purports former Transportation Secretary, Elaine Chao, called former President Donald Trump a “Chinese bitch” in a tweet.
Verdict: False
The tweet is from a satire account. Chao did not send out this tweet.
Fact Check:
Trump declared his intention to seek the presidency in 2024 and said he is prepared to “handle” potential challenger, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, Fox News reported. The former president is also reportedly preparing a return to Twitter and Facebook, according to NBC News.
The post shares an alleged screenshot of a tweet from Chao calling Trump a “Chinese bitch,” appearing to be dated Dec. 30, 2022.
“Please understand that I am only saying this because I genuinely believe it is true,” the alleged tweet reads. “I’ve driven through some bad parts of China but I’ve never seen a bigger Chinese bitch than than Former President Trump.”
The image is digitally fabricated. This post appears nowhere on Chao’s verified Twitter account. There is also no record of it on the deleted tweet tracker website, Politwoops by ProPublica. There are also no credible news reports suggesting Chao had made any such remarks.
The image was intended as satire. In the bottom corner of the image, a “Parody Rub” signature can be seen. (RELATED: Did The Trump Campaign Send This Email Impersonating Ron DeSantis?)
Chao recently addressed a “racist taunt” from Trump, when he called her “Coco Chow” in a TRUTH Social post while criticizing Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, according to USA Today. She also criticized the media, accusing them of “continuously repeat[ing] his racist taunt,” the outlet reported.
This is not the first time misinformation has been spread about a public figure on social media. Check Your Fact recently debunked a post claiming Karine Jean-Pierre left a press conference after being asked about classified documents.
