An image shared on social media purportedly shows a screenshot of a headline from Irish news outlet Independent.ie reporting pregnant men are at high risk of heart attack caused by climate change.

Verdict: False

The image is digitally altered. There is no evidence that The Independent made this statement.

Fact Check:

Heart attacks have increased for every age group since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, most notably there has been a 30% increase in heart attack risk for people ages 25 to 40, NBC Bay Area reported. Prior to the pandemic, heart attacks in the U.S. were trending down but has experienced a reversal of that trend, according to Today.

The Twitter post claims pregnant men are at a higher risk of heart of attacks. The post shares a screenshot of an alleged article with the logo of the Independent visible in the image. “Study finds that pregnant men are most at risk from heart attacks brought on by climate change,” the alleged headline reads.

The image is altered. There is no credible news report that suggests the Independent published any such article. There is no record of this article on the outlet’s archived version of the website from the supposed day of publication, Feb. 28. Likewise this headline does not appear on any of their verified social media accounts. (RELATED: Did Tim Pool Blame ‘Woke Agenda’ For Ending His Sex Life?)

Check Your Fact contacted the Independent for comment. We will update this piece if a response is provided.

This is not the first time a satirical post has been shared online as real. Check Your Fact recently debunked a claim that Essex Police Department were discriminated against certain ethnicities.
