A video shared on Facebook claims to show French firefighters joining the current protests and clashing with police.

Verdict: False

The video is from 2020 and is not related to the current protests.

Fact Check:

French President Emmanuel Macron’s pension reform plans have been met with violent protests, according to Bloomberg News. These protests resulted in the cancellation of British King Charles III’s scheduled visit to Paris, the outlet reported.

The Facebook video claims to show French police clashing with firefighters during these recent protests. The Facebook video’s caption reads, “BREAKING: French police have squared off against French firefighters in open combat as the firefighters join French resistance fighters.”

This video, however, is not related to the recent protests. Through a reverse image search, Check Your Fact found that the video is from January 2020, more than two years before the recent protests against pension reform.

Charge of CRS against charge of FIREMEN,” reads a translation of the tweet. (RELATED: Does This Video Show The Recent Tornado In Pasadena?)

The video appears to be related to French firemen protesting for a pay increase. In January 2020, police clashed with firemen protesting for better pay and working conditions, according to The Guardian. The video was published in a January 2020 Daily Mail article about the clashes.

Social media users often post videos of old footage and pass them off as recent events. Check Your Fact recently debunked a video claiming to show a recent tornado that struck Mississippi.
