A photo shared on Twitter allegedly shows a tweet from a Nashville news outlet stating that the father of a child murdered in the Covenant School shooting called for an end to “trans evil.”

Verdict: False

The image is digitally fabricated. A spokesperson for the news outlet confirmed that the tweet is fake in an email to Check Your Fact.

Fact Check:

Six people were killed at a private Christian school in Nashville Mar. 27 after a shooter, 28-year-old Audrey Hale, entered the building with “assault-style” weapons. according to The Associated Press. Hale, who reportedly once attended the school, sent concerning messages to a former teammate before the assault happened, Fox News reported.

A Twitter post allegedly shows a tweet from Nashville-area news outlet WSMV stating that the father of a 9-year-old victim called for an end to “trans evil.” The picture of the tweet is cropped so the sharing options and statistics are not shown, but a Twitter logo appears in the top right corner.

“Father of murderer girl, 9, at Covenant school shooting, calls for ‘an end to tolerance’ in family statement to press, vowing ‘to fight with every fiber of my being for the end of the trans evil,” the alleged tweet reads. “The evil that took my daughter. There must be a solution to this evil in America.'”

The photo is digitally fabricated, however. Check Your Fact found no credible news reports about the father of a victim in the recent shooting making such a comment.

The tweet cannot be found through a search of WSMV’s verified Twitter account. The outlet addressed the image in a tweet, confirming that the screenshot is not genuine. “This Tweet is fake. WSMV4 did not post this,” it reads. (RELATED: Is This A Photo Of The Alleged Nashville Shooter’s Bedroom?)

“The tweet you are referencing is fake and was never created or distributed by WSMV4. The creator of the tweet is using our service mark fraudulently and maliciously,” a WSMV spokesperson confirmed in an email to Check Your Fact.

Misinformation surrounding the Covenant school shooting in Nashville has been widespread. Check Your Fact recently debunked a photo allegedly showing the suspect’s bedroom.
